Brabus Rocket 800

The Brabus name has always been important in the high-performance aftermarket industry. Since its foundation in 1977 by Baron Martin Stillman von Brabus, in Germany, the tuning company has tweaked the engines and redesigned the interior and exterior of numerous Mercedes-Benz, Smart and Maybach automobiles.

The thing that has always been appreciated by the car enthusiasts is Brabus’ primary focus to squeeze the maximum power from the engines by increasing the horsepower and torque and of course, to harness that power and put it on the “road”.

During this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, which is the most important automotive event in Germany, Brabus has presented its 2011 masterpiece.

Brabus has bought a standard Mercedes-Benz CLS from Mercedes and replaced almost everything with custom aftermarket parts. They called it the Brabus Rocket 800 but I would like to suggest a better one, which properly describes the car: “The Beast”.

Brabus Rocket 800 is the name of the most powerful Mercedes-Benz CLS. The tuning house that has been called the “semi-official” tuner of Mercedes, has delighted the public present at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show with a creation worthy of the Guinness Book of Records. It is the second generation model of the famous "Rocket" model based on the CLS. This year, Brabus has pushed the CLS to an astonishing 800 hp! The engine of this beast comes from the previous Rocket, a V12, but the cubic capacity of the engine has been upgraded from 5.5 liters to a whopping 6.3 liters.

The new engine is capable of 800 hp and 1420 Nm of torque. Unfortunately, transmission, suspension and tires cannot support more than 1,100 Nm of torque and was therefore limited to this value. Obviously, all these 1100 Nm are available at 2,100 rpm. The transmission was borrowed from AMG, more specifically, the seven-speed AMG Speedshift MCT.

In order for you to get a more rough perspective of the Rocket 800, it can accelerate from a stand-still to 100 km/h (or 62 mph) in 3.7 seconds, from 0-200 km/h (or 125 mph) in 9.8 seconds and from 0 to 300 km/h (or 185 mph) in 23.8 seconds. Top speed is officially announced to be 370 km/h (or 230 mph).

The brake system is expected to be at least as impressive as the power of the engine and the speed to be able to stop this amazing car to a stand-still. The front brake discs are 380 x 37 mm in diameter and the calipers have twelve pistons. On the rear wheels, the dimensions are 360 x 28 mm and have six-pistons and the calipers are forged from a solid block of aluminum. The wheels are special edition BRABUS Monoblock F Platinum Edition. They can be mounted with Continental, Pirelli or Yokohama tires, or whatever the needs of the eccentric customer.

Everything inside is covered with fine leather sown perfectly in Brabus’ workshops. Obviously, the leather used is Alcantara leather and the aluminum or glossy black wood inserts are not missing from the luxury interior.

The official price that was announced in Germany is a staggering amount of 429,000 euros, attention, without any taxes. It's a huge price meant for the people who can afford it but if you come to think of it, this is one of the world's fastest CLSs and this kind of performance doesn’t come cheap.

When it comes to car insurance many people would look the other way due to this huge cost of the car. Car insurance for this car is usually high because the aftermarket parts produced by Brabus are not mass produced and they do not come cheap, so restoring this car to its original condition after an accident can be costly on a low budget. Luckily there are a few car insurance companies that offer comprehensive car insurance which covers you for damage to your own car, as well as for any damage you may cause to the property of others.
