Every year just before the famous beer festival known to the Germans as Oktoberfest, Germany reveals its technical marvels at the International Automobile Exposition (also known as the Frankfurt Auto Show). Audis, BMWs, Mercedes-Benzes, and Volkwagens soak up several kilowatts worth of spotlight on their home turf. It's the kickoff week for a national festival of engineering innovations, automotive masterpieces, and beer.
As the world's most important trade fair for mobility, the IAA offers a unique program including 183 world premieres. The automotive manufacturers alone are presenting 89 world premieres. Over half of them, 45 in fact, are from German group brands. And the suppliers have 94 world premieres here. In total, 1,012 exhibitors from 32 countries are present at the 64th IAA Cars; in the last week five more smaller stands have been added. This means that we have far more than at the IAA 2009 (781 exhibitors), and have almost matched the large number at the IAA 2007, which took place during a very buoyant economic phase. The amount of exhibition space comes to 235,000 sq m and is a new record," stressed Matthias Wissmann at the IAA's opening press conference in Frankfurt am Main on Monday. The 64th International Motor Show (IAA) Cars will be officially opened on 15 September by the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel. Around 10,000 journalists from over 90 countries have already been accredited for the two Press Days (13 and 14 September) with around 90 press conferences. Following the two Trade Days (15 and 16 September), the IAA will be open to the general public from 17 to 25 September. The slogan of the IAA 2011 is "Future comes as standard.
This year’s show includes a variety of new cars, concept cars, hybrid cars and modified cars. As you’ve been used to for several years, here at Auto4Tuning.com we will be concentrating on the modified cars or the car tuning part of the show.
If we look through the first line-up of tuned up cars, it seems that 2011 was a great year for the tuning industry. Important tuning houses like Brabus, Mansory, Carlsson, Hamann, AC Schnitzer, Alpina, Anderson, Abarth, Startech or TechArt have outdone themselves. All of them have developed uber tuning cars like the Mansory Bentley Continental GT, Abarth Fiat 500 Cabrio Italia, AC Schnitzer BMW M1, Alpina BMW 6th Series, Anderson Porsche Panamera, Brabus Rocket 800 and something that you don’t see every day on the tuning scene, a HYBRID. Hamann has developed its first hybrid using the platform of the Mercedes-Benz E220 CDI. Since an image is worth 1000 words, let’s let the images do the talking from now on! Enjoy!
