More area, more cars and more show: The Essen Motor Show 2010 is really stepping on the gas and once again aroused the enthusiasm of 106,000 visitors on the opening weekend. "The concept of once more placing greater emphasis on sportiness and on motor sport as an image medium which is important to the whole automobile industry has come off; the new trademark appearance is going down well," Frank Thorwirth and Egon Galinnis, Managing Directors of Messe Essen, are certain. "We are moving at a really good speed and are continuing to step on the gas! The optimism which is discernible in the sector is being reflected at the Essen Motor Show as well."

Hermann Tomczyk, Sport President of ADAC ("General German Automobile Club"), also praised the re-launch: "I can only express my congratulations on the constant refinement because, in this form, the Essen Motor Show is unique anywhere in the world. It is a highlight for motor sport fans every year and enjoys a cult status not without reason. ADAC is happy to use this platform to provide an unambiguous commitment to and signal for mobility as a competent and leading representative of interests."

The mood amongst the exhibitors was already correspondingly good after the first weekend of the 43rd Essen Motor Show. They showed that they were very satisfied with the quality and number of the visitors. From the visitors' side, there was a lot of praise for the comprehensive range available at the most diverse automobile fair. Over 95 percent made a positive assessment of the range on offer. The Motor Show is spreading far afield: More than 53 percent of the visitors had travelled more than 100 kilometers; more than a quarter came from abroad.

Motor sport and sporty automobiles - this year, particular attention is focusing on both these attributes at the Essen Motor Show. The automobile manufacturers are displaying the sportiness of their vehicles. For example, Hyundai is presenting the new Genesis coupé as a German premiere and Skoda the two Fabia RS+ and Octavia RS+ studies. And they are highlighting their successes in motor sport competitions. They are thus spot on as far as the visitors are concerned. Because the proportion of people interested in motor sport has once more risen considerably, to 44 percent now.

Total motor sport is the order of the day in the Pit Lane and in the Motor Sport Arena. The smell of petrol and rubber, the sound of roaring engines and screeching tires and the sight of genuine bend artists are captivating the visitors in the Motor Sport Arena. Professional drivers are demonstrating their ability on a spectacular indoor racecourse. Information about racing and a large number of racing vehicles can be seen in the Pit Lane where over 30 racing series are presenting themselves.

The visitors are very interested in the Tuning section. Here, the exhibitors are displaying numerous innovations, also including several world premieres. The vehicles which can be seen for the first time include the BMW 5-Series Touring by AC Schnitzer, the Renault Wind by Elia, the Porsche Panamera by Caractere, the Volvo V 60 by Heico Sportiv and the Brabus SV 12 R Biturbo 800 - the most powerful luxury saloon car in the world.

In the Classic Cars section, over 200 historic vehicles are attracting the interest of the visitors. The greatest fascination is emanating from the "100 Years of Alfa Romeo - the Racing Legends" special show which has never existed in this combination of vehicles.

During the opening ceremony, glamour was provided by the actress Brigitte Nielsen, the former world ski jumping champion and racing driver Sven Hannawald and the actor Henning Baum. The dates of the fair are prominently noted in the diaries of numerous racing drivers. In addition to Sven Hannawald, the racing legends Hans-Joachim Stuck and Walter Röhrl also came to the opening ceremony. The Formula 1 driver Adrian Sutil was a popular autograph provider on Saturday, just like the racing driver Sabine Schmitz. At the Essen Motor Show, Prince Albert von Thurn und Taxis was honored as the winner of the ADAC GT Masters. A large number of other celebrities from racing and the media have announced their visits to the fair, including the youngest German Formula 1 driver Nico Hülkenberg, the actor Ralf Richter and the car experts Lina van de Mars and Det Müller.

Extra highlights at the 43rd Essen Motor Show are the Speed Bike Show with lavishly tuned motor bikes, the Classic Cars section with over 200 vehicles steeped in history, the Galeria with race trucks and lightning-quick dragsters, legendary hot rods, pioneering design studies and curious vehicles. The fair is approaching the subject of the Capital of Culture 2010 from an automobile perspective: With the title "Driving Culture Ruhr", owner from 53 cities, towns and local authorities in the Ruhr region are displaying their tuned and individually styled vehicles.

On 110,000 square meters, 507 exhibitors will continue to present a comprehensive range available in the Tuning, Motor Sport, Sporty Series Automobiles and Classic Cars sections (the four pillars of the Essen Motor Show) until Sunday, December 5. All 18 halls at Messe Essen are occupied.
